Industrial Water Treatment Equipment

Removes Iron and Manganese from
Groundwater and Industrial Water

Iron and Manganese Removal Filter

AMCON's Iron and Manganese Removal Filter efficiently removes iron and manganese, which can cause red or black water, fouling of piping and equipment, and lower product quality. The filter uses Ferrolite and can be backwashed with treated water, so regeneration chemicals are not required. This reduces the burden of Operation & Maintenance. Its durable stainless-steel construction supports stable operation over the long term.

Main Applications

  • Pretreatment for pure water systems and RO systems
  • Water for beverage and food production
  • Water for cleaning applications
  • Cooling water for cooling towers
  • Boiler feedwater
  • Water quality improvement for facilities using groundwater or industrial water

Main Industries and Facilities

The Iron and Manganese Removal Filter can be used across a wide range of industries and facilities that use groundwater or industrial water.

  • Electronics industry
  • Chemicals, materials and machinery
  • Pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and medical devices
  • Hospitals and welfare facilities
  • Hotels and commercial facilities
  • Food manufacturing

Key Benefits

Controls Red and Black Water

By removing iron and manganese from well water and groundwater, the filter helps suppress red or black water at taps and supply industrial water with stable quality.

Expected Benefits
  • Supply of industrial water with stable water quality
  • Fewer water quality complaints

Helps Prevent Fouling in Piping and Equipment

When iron and manganese accumulate inside piping, they can adhere to inner walls and cause clogged pipes and water quality deterioration. Removing them in advance helps prevent fouling in piping and equipment.

Expected Benefits
  • Reduced equipment maintenance frequency
  • Longer piping service life

Reduces the Impact on Product Quality

If iron and manganese are present in water used in manufacturing processes for food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and similar products, discoloration and flavor impacts may be a concern. Removing them helps reduce their impact on quality.

Expected Benefits
  • More stable production lots
  • Fewer quality complaints

Advantages

Long-term Stable Filtration Performance

The filter is equipped with a strainer featuring a special water collection and distribution structure. Uniform flow through the filter bed supports stable filtration performance and enables impurities accumulated in the filter bed to be reliably removed during backwashing. The design also reduces stress on the filter media, helping minimize media breakage, deterioration and clogging for a long service life. The filter body uses durable stainless steel and can accommodate various raw water conditions, including groundwater and industrial water.

Reduces Operation & Maintenance without Regeneration Chemicals

Ferrolite is used as the filter media. Because backwashing with treated water is possible, regeneration chemicals such as potassium permanganate are not required. Stable filtration performance can be maintained while reducing the burden of chemical procurement, storage and handling.

Designed for Limited Installation Space

The efficient design makes the filter suitable for sites with limited installation space. Specifications can also be adjusted to match constraints such as the installation location and delivery route.

Filter Media Replacement for Existing Systems

AMCON also supports filter media replacement for currently installed systems. Based on customer requirements, AMCON can provide integrated support from water quality analysis and filter media selection to replacement work and industrial waste disposal. When system renewal is required, AMCON can also provide Solutions for a new system.

How the Iron and Manganese Removal Filter Works

Iron and manganese in groundwater and industrial water are made insoluble through oxidation and then physically removed by filter media. In AMCON’s Iron and Manganese Removal Filter, raw water passes through a vessel filled with filter media to remove iron and manganese.

Filter media are selected according to raw water quality, the target substances to be removed, and the required treated water quality. AMCON can provide either a single layer of Ferrolite, which offers excellent iron and manganese removal performance and long-term stable filtration performance, or multilayer filtration with anthracite.

Impurities accumulated on the filter media surface are removed by periodic backwashing. After manual or automatic backwashing, the system returns to filtration operation and supplies treated water with consistent quality.

Operating status can be monitored with instruments such as flowmeters and pressure gauges, and automatic operation according to operating conditions is also available. Small to large models can be selected according to the customer’s treatment volume.

Integrated Industrial Water Treatment System Solutions

AMCON provides an optimal system configuration based on raw water quality and application, not only an Iron and Manganese Removal Filter.

  • Sand Separator: Removes sand and fine solids from raw water
  • Rapid Sand Filter: Removes turbidity and fine particles
  • Activated Carbon Filter: Adsorbs residual chlorine, organic matter and odor components
  • Ion Exchange Water Softener: Removes hardness components

AMCON provides integrated support covering water quality analysis, equipment selection, filter media selection, new equipment installation, removal and replacement of existing equipment, and After-Sales Support including filter media replacement.

Product Implementation Process

Please contact AMCON to discuss your requirements. We review current water quality issues, application, requirements, installation location and other conditions, then provide specifications suited to the customer. In the raw water quality survey, AMCON checks the concentration of iron and manganese and the substances to be removed, then determines suitable filter media and equipment specifications. After specifications and auxiliary equipment are finalized, manufacturing, delivery and installation are carried out, followed by commissioning and handover.
