Their Problem
At Urakawa Wastewater Treatment Center, aging of the gravity thickening tank, sludge storage tank, and Sludge Dewatering Press made equipment upgrades necessary. In addition, seismic reinforcement work required the gravity thickening tank and sludge storage tank to be drained, creating a situation in which the existing equipment had to be temporarily stopped.
However, sludge generated every day still had to be treated during the construction period, making it urgent to secure alternative Sludge Treatment equipment.

AMCON’s Solution
With Kanadevia Corporation serving as the contractor for this project, AMCON provided the VOLUTE™ DW-202 as a rental unit for the temporary dewatering system and operated it stably for approximately nine months.
VOLUTE™ has an integrated structure that performs thickening and dewatering simultaneously in a single filtration unit. This allows waste activated sludge to be fed directly without passing through a gravity thickening tank. In this temporary treatment flow, waste activated sludge was fed from the final sedimentation tank to the Sludge Dewatering Press, and direct dewatering from the OD reaction tank is also possible. As a result, Sludge Treatment could continue smoothly through the temporary line even while the existing gravity thickening tank was stopped.

This simple direct-feed line enabled stable Sludge Treatment during the construction period. Because waste activated sludge could be treated directly, the required installation space and temporary piping were kept to a minimum compared with a process that routes sludge through a thickening tank.

Temporary Dewatering System: VOLUTE™ Dewatering Press DW-202
Treatment Conditions
Sludge Type: Waste activated sludge
Sludge volume: 37 m³/day (generated daily)
SS amount: 372 kg/day
Moisture content: 99.0%
Rental Sludge Dewatering Press: DW-202 (treatment capacity: 28 kg-DS/h)
Operating conditions: 18 hours/day, 5 days/week
Sludge Cake after treatment:
- SS amount: 521 kg/day
- Sludge volume: 3.5 m³/day
- Moisture content: 85%
Results of Installing the Rental Dewatering Press
- Continued Sludge Treatment without interruption during the construction period
- Built a simple temporary line using the integrated thickening and dewatering structure
- Supported a short construction schedule with easy installation and removal of temporary equipment
- Enabled a smooth return to the existing line
When Sludge Treatment equipment must be temporarily stopped for equipment upgrades, seismic reinforcement work, or similar projects, AMCON’s Sludge Dewatering Press rental provides a solution that keeps Sludge Treatment running while minimizing the burden on the site.
In addition to construction projects, consult AMCON if you need an emergency replacement unit due to failure or repair of an existing dewatering press, or if you want to reduce sludge disposal costs for sludge currently transported by vacuum truck. Rentals are available across Japan from as little as one month.
