Content 01From Evaluating Dewatering Performance to Selecting the Most Suitable Polymer

  • Want to evaluate the achievable dewatering performance of your sludge?
  • Need to determine whether your sludge is suitable for dewatering with a Sludge Dewatering Press?
  • Looking to re-evaluate the optimum polymer due to changes in sludge characteristics?

Whether you are selecting a new Sludge Dewatering Press or considering replacement of your existing equipment, our Sludge Sample Test helps you evaluate the suitability of your sludge for dewatering.
Using polymers from the Hybrid V Series, we identify the most suitable option for your sludge and provide a report covering floc formation, polymer dosage, and the estimated moisture content of the sludge cake. The results can also be used to review the polymer currently used in your operation.

What Is a Sludge Sample Test?

During the Sludge Sample Test, multiple polymers are evaluated using the sludge sample you provide. We assess floc formation, flocculation performance, and floc strength before conducting laboratory dewatering tests to measure filtration characteristics and the moisture content of the sludge cake. Based on a comprehensive evaluation of the test results, we recommend the most suitable polymer, dosage, and the expected dewatering performance when using an AMCON Sludge Dewatering Press.

What the Sludge Sample Test Evaluates

What the Sludge Sample Test Evaluates

  • Evaluation of floc formation, flocculation performance, floc strength, and filtration characteristics
  • Recommended polymer
  • Recommended dosage and dosing ratio
  • Estimated sludge cake moisture content
  • Overall evaluation

Sludge Sample Test vs. Pilot Test

The Sludge Sample Test is a laboratory evaluation using the sludge sample you provide. It verifies compatibility with an AMCON Sludge Dewatering Press while identifying the optimum polymer and dosage. Because only a small volume of sludge is required, it provides a convenient way to assess dewaterability.

A Pilot Test is conducted at your Wastewater Treatment facility using an actual AMCON Sludge Dewatering Press under your operating conditions. The test allows you to evaluate dewatering performance, treatment capacity, operability, and maintenance requirements before making an investment. It is also suitable when comparing our equipment with other manufacturers’ products.

We recommend starting with a Sludge Sample Test to confirm dewaterability. If a more detailed performance evaluation is required, a Pilot Test can provide additional operational data to support your equipment selection.

Case Studies

Sample Testing Identified the Optimal Polymer and Reduced Polymer Dosage by Approximately 50%
Confectionery & Retort Food Factory in Japan

By switching to the polymer identified through the Sludge Sample Test, the customer reduced polymer dosage by approximately half. Improved floc formation also increased the SS recovery rate of the filtrate while reducing operating costs.

Common Questions

Where should I collect the sludge sample?
Please collect the sludge sample from the storage tank immediately before it is fed into the Sludge Dewatering Press. The sample should represent the sludge that will actually be dewatered.
Am I required to purchase chemicals or equipment after the sample test?
No. There is no obligation to purchase any products. The Sludge Sample Test is provided to support your evaluation process. Its purpose is to help you determine whether an AMCON Sludge Dewatering Press is suitable for your sludge.
We have used the Sludge Sample Test before. Can we request another test?
Yes. Sludge characteristics may change due to variations in wastewater conditions, production processes, raw materials, seasonal temperature changes, biological treatment performance, and operating conditions. Conducting the Sludge Sample Test periodically helps identify the most suitable polymer and provides valuable information when reviewing operating conditions based on your current sludge characteristics.
