Wastewater Treatment Plant in Philippines

Background

At the time, public sewerage infrastructure in Cebu City was still underdeveloped, and many households and businesses relied on septic tanks for wastewater treatment.

In some cases, sludge (septage) removed from septic tanks was not treated properly, creating challenges for improving both the water environment and public sanitation. To help address these challenges, AMCON INC. utilized the local network it had established through initiatives such as the Y-PORT Program promoted by the City of Yokohama. As part of the JICA Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Overseas Business Development Program, AMCON conducted a demonstration project of the VOLUTE™ Dewatering Press in Cebu City.

Results of the Demonstration Project

The demonstration project in Cebu City confirmed that sludge removed from septic tanks could be dewatered efficiently using the VOLUTE™ Dewatering Press. It also demonstrated stable operation with minimal risk of clogging.

The project results were highly recognized by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) of the Philippines, leading to the first installation of the VOLUTE™ Dewatering Press at a municipal wastewater treatment plant in the country.

Installation at Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants

Following the successful demonstration project, VOLUTE™ was introduced at the Baguio City Wastewater Treatment Plant and a sludge treatment facility in Tarlac City. At the Baguio City Wastewater Treatment Plant, sludge treatment was changed from conventional natural drying, which previously required approximately two months, to mechanical dewatering. This significantly reduced the treatment period. It also eliminated the need for long-term sludge storage, contributing to a cleaner facility environment by reducing unpleasant odors and the occurrence of flies.

Expansion in the Philippine Market

Following its successful introduction at municipal wastewater treatment plants, VOLUTE™ has been adopted across a wide range of industries and facilities in the Philippines, including food and beverage manufacturing, livestock and meat processing, chemical manufacturing, electronic component manufacturing, automotive parts manufacturing, and hotels.

The successful track record established at municipal wastewater treatment plants has enhanced the recognition and credibility of VOLUTE™ in the Philippines, leading to wider adoption at industrial facilities.

Today, VOLUTE™ is used in wastewater treatment facilities across a diverse range of industries, where it is highly valued not only for improving the water environment but also for its energy efficiency and ease of maintenance.
