Problems faced prior to Installation
Located in Puerto Vallarta – a major tourist city in Mexico – this wastewater treatment plant plays a vital role in protecting the region’s sanitary environment. It receives sludge from three neighboring facilities, resulting in variable sludge characteristics and concentration—a major obstacle to stable treatment operations.
The plant had been running a centrifugal dewatering system over a period of many years, but several challenges emerged due to aging equipment and poor compatibility with aerobically digested sludge:
- Frequent replacement of consumables: leading to expensive maintenance
- Repeated failures and breakdowns: causing frequent interruptions
- Limited compatibility: difficult to adapt to varying sludge types
- Reduced performance: when treating highly concentrated / viscous sludge due to slow separation and high moisture content in the cake
To address these issues, the plant required a new dewatering system capable of handling high-viscosity sludge while offering broad compatibility in operating conditions.
A field test of the VOLUTE™ Dewatering Press was conducted on-site with actual sludge. The test results demonstrated excellent adaptability to fluctuations in sludge quality and stable dewatering performance, leading to the decision of installing our VOLUTE™ at the customer’s facility.
Post-Implementation Results
Since introducing our VOLUTE™ Dewatering Press, the plant has seen significant improvements in operational stability and efficiency.

Our VOLUTE™ demonstrated high adaptability to variations in sludge from multiple sources, thanks to its broad range of operating adjustments. It maintained stable dewatering performance regardless of seasonal or daily changes in sludge conditions.
2. Improved Dewatering and Reduced Moisture Content
Even with highly concentrated, viscous sludge, managed to dewater flawlessly with a screw press mechanism. This resulted in lower moisture content compared to the previous system. This led to a reduction in sludge cake volume and enhanced treatment capacity, improving overall operational efficiency.
3. Significantly Lower Maintenance Costs
With minimal wear on parts and a simple, robust design, equipment failures have drastically decreased. As a result, labor for maintenance and costs have been greatly reduced, enabling long-term stable operation with fewer disruptions.
